Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March
In the year 2020, the developers announced a major change to Minecraft: Java Edition, since players will soon be required to swap from the Mojang account to a Microsoft account in order to continue playing. This is "soon" in relative terms, as we're not yet at the deadline but the developers have recently confirmed the date and sent out the final request for account migration.
You will no longer have the ability to play Minecraft: Java Edition if you have an account with Mojang account. To "improved security, player safety" the developers want everyone to switch to Microsoft accounts. They offer free Minecraft caps to encourage people to switch.
Here are all the information about how you can migrate your account. Java Edition will continue to be supported as usual following the change and will continue remain a separate entity from Bedrock. This is a pure unification of the account systems. Minecraft-servers can still use your previous username. All you need is an Xbox gamertag.
